This week in Year 5, our Geography lessons took an exciting twist as we explored the wonders and challenges of deserts. But we didn’t just learn about them—we reported from them!

Using our knowledge of desert climates, landscapes, and threats, the children became roving reporters, bringing the news straight from the heart of the desert. With the help of green screen technology, our young journalists combined their Geography learning with their IT skills to create immersive news reports.

Each team crafted detailed scripts, delivering breaking news on topics such as extreme temperatures, desert wildlife, and the impact of human activity on these fragile ecosystems. From warning settlers about sandstorms to explaining the adaptation of cacti, their reports were informative, engaging, and full of enthusiasm.

The highlight? Seeing their reactions as they watched themselves ‘on location’—whether standing in the middle of the Sahara or reporting on a dust storm in the Gobi! This hands-on approach not only deepened their understanding but also developed their confidence in presenting and using technology creatively.
