Week 7 – Ice Cream
This week we basked in the sunshine and worked hard for some ice-cream!
Ice-cream is basically droplets of fat from milk suspended in millions of tiny crystals of ice, fluffed up with pockets of air. We made a mixture turn cold enough to form ice-cream using ice and salt (they really do make a chilling combination!)
Using the basic ingredients: milk, cream, sugar & vanilla extract we shook the contents in sealed bags and chilled them over ice and salt to create our very own, DELICIOUS ice-cream. We even decorated our final product with sprinkles and sauce. Although it was hard work – it was definitely worth it!
Following on from the success of the last few weeks – making slime – the children enjoyed themselves yet again and listened really carefully to the instructions. They also showed brilliant team work, working with partners to alternate the shaking process. We even considered the STEM principle of MATTER.
I hope the children still had room for their dinner on Friday evening – they definitely worked up an appetite!
